You Know You’ve Grown Up When

1. You know you’ve grown up when you are reading this list!

2. You know you’ve grown up when none of the things you want for Christmas can be bought at the stores.

3. You know you’ve grown up when the older you get, the more death you’ll witness and you went to the funeral of your grandma. You understand death and loss.

4. You know you’ve grown up when you can go wherever you want without asking your mom first. You tell her you’re going somewhere far away next week out of nowhere. Norway, Alaska, Cape Town, name it.

5. You know you’ve grown up when you travel independently and your mom doesn’t ask you anything bout it, you just inform her some small stuffs sporadically.

6. You know you’ve grown up when you take new adventures, maybe visit friends who are far away or maybe you apply for a job you are in no way qualified for. Either way you try something new.

7. You know you’ve grown up when you enjoy watching the news.

8. You know you’ve grown up when you watch weather forecast.

9. You know you’ve grown up when you drink beer from the bottle.

10. You know you’ve grown up when you’ve learned what it means to treat yourself.

11. You know you’ve grown up when you do your own laundry.

12. You know you’ve grown up when you view going to bed early as an accomplishment.

13. You know you’ve grown up when you now understand what your parents meant when they said, “You’ll understand when you’re older.”. It all makes sense now.

14. You know you’ve grown up when you tell your parents that you are just not going to agree with them about certain things (especially regarding your lifestyle choices).

15. You know you’ve grown up when you’ve become ridiculously nostalgic when it comes to your childhood.

16. You know you’ve grown up when you have no more f*cks to give.

17. You know you’ve grown up when you no longer use Facebook to overshare — you use it to make you seem smart and cultured.

18. You know you’ve grown up when you decide to move somewhere where there is more opportunity for your professionally, but where you are an absolute stranger and have no comfort zone.

19. You know you’ve grown up when you understand that sometimes, when people tell you that they are too busy to see you, they really mean it. Their lives are simply changing in a way that may mean you will not be able to be as close or see each other as frequently as was once the case.

20. You know you’ve grown up when you watch friends you love move away, and knowing that they will likely never come back.

21. You know you’ve grown up when you realize that you are what you once considered “a grown-up age,” and that you do not feel “grown-up” in the least.

22. You know you’ve grown up when you accept that, sometimes, your parents really were right about things.

23. You know you’ve grown up when you leave the sense of competition you have with your siblings and appreciating that you can all succeed on different terms and still be completely independent people.

24. You know you’ve grown up when teenagers seem very loud to you these days.

25. You know you’ve grown up when you seem to always have more errands to do on your weekends and free time.

26. You know you’ve grown up when you have a view on politics.

27. You know you’ve grown up when you’ve written at least one “Thank You” card to your friends.

28. You know you’ve grown up when you read before going to sleep.

29. You know you’ve grown up when you stand up for what you believe and do what you think is right

30. You know you’ve grown up when you’re honest with yourself.

31. You know you’ve grown up when you know what you want and go after it.

32. You know you’ve grown up when you make sure to spend some extra time with your family because you’re beginning to realize just how fast time flies.

33. You know you’ve grown up when you question what you really need versus what you really want more now than you ever did before.

34. You know you’ve grown up when your little brother is getting ready to go off to college and you have no idea where time went.
